What is OFAC screening software
OFAC screening software is a tool built for one job: making sure you do not do business with a person or company sanctioned by the Office of Foreign Assets Control. It holds a current copy of the OFAC lists, compares your names against them with fuzzy matching, and records each result.
The rules apply to U.S. persons, including U.S. companies and their foreign branches, and in practice to many foreign firms that use U.S. dollars or U.S. banks. OFAC civil penalties are strict liability, so a company can be penalized even when nobody knew the customer was listed. Software turns screening into a repeatable step with a paper trail.
